CLIENT MEETING

My design plan that I drew wasn't exactly what i ended up with. When I opened i web, O saw many other choices , and I ended up choosing one of the available ones. My website design is now like a journal where I right what i have found out about Earthquakes.
In class for the first two periods, I was searching the internet for information about Earthquakes. I was looking for something interesting and kid attracting. By the end of the first few periods, I had alot of information from searching on google. I found thinks from a website called What are Earthquakes which was very helpful. It had many visuals and it was not crowded. But, most important, it had almost all the iformation I needed which I changed and added onto to make my website.
I have based my design on i web on a journal idea. The font and color og my website resembles handwriting in pencil as if it had been writen by my hand in pencil. I thing that this would attract people's eyes and make the reading abit more interesting.
The feartures on apple iWeb have satisfied my needs greatly.
Embedding is something I am still working on. I am looking for good videos and images to add onto my iWeb, and for now I thing I am doing well.
I am still researching the best thing to do when an earthquake occurs. So far I don't have andy images, videos, or quizzes because for now i am focusing on getting the information ready.

Hurricane Katrina

Author and Page information

Hurricane Katrina was a devastating category 4 hurricane, that hit the Gulf of Mexico and various Southern regions of the United States at the end of August, 2005, causing some of the worst damage in that country’s history, estimated at $100 billion.

The famous New Orleans city and surrounding areas were worst hit as much of it sits some 6 feet below sea level. City defenses, such as levees, only designed for category 3 type hurricanes, gave way, leading to enormous flooding and associated damage, death and displacement of around 100,000 people who either chose to say the course, or could not afford to flee.

The BBC details some of the numbers:

  • 90,000 square mile disaster zone — equivalent to area of Great Britain
  • 10,000 originally feared dead — revised down by government
  • 60 nations have offered aid as well as UN, NATO and WHO
  • 13 states now have a state of emergency in force

THis website is very attractive, and it has a good amount of information. The website consists of many links, and it has many great visuals. This website is accurately organized. It also has a "contact us" link and an "about us" link. these are good signs in a website.
Fast Cars UK

This website's title tells exactly what the website's purpose is. When you open it, the website looks attractive and has many good visuals. However, I think this website could use mor information.
HRODC

This website's title tells you nothing about what the website's purpose is. When you open this website, you see a bunch of words. The website looks like it has a lot of information, but the words are crowded together. It's colors are also unattractive, and it makes people think that they should look for another website.
REDBLOODCLUB.NET

When i look this website, I think that it is not what I'm looking for. It does not tell me what the website is about. I only consists of links. The color is clear, and it does not make the site look crowded and unattractive. However, it could use some more images.

Vocabulary to define:
  1. WWW
World Wide Web

2.Synchronous communication
Direct communication, where all parties involved in the communication are present at the same time (an event) is a form of synchronous communication. Examples include a telephone conversation, a company board meeting a chat room event and instant messaging.

3.Asynchronous communication
Asynchronous communication does not require that all parties involved in the communication need to be present and available at the same time. Examples of this include e-mail (the receiver does not have to be logged on when the sender sends the e-mail message), discussion boards, which allow conversations to evolve and community to develop over a period of time, and text messaging over cell phones.

4. html
A markup language used to structure text and multimedia documents and to set up hypertext links between documents, used extensively on the World Wide Web.

  • Which communication forms are synchronous? Facebook and bebo are a form of communication that is synchronous. Synchronous activities may include chat sessions, whiteboard drawings, and other group interactive work. Skype and msn are other forms of synchronization.
  • Which ones are asynchronous? Viewing videos linked to the course site, reading a textbook, and writing a paper are all asynchronous activities.
  • What type of information would be conveyed by each form? Synchronization is a form of communication that is fast. You get your answers easily, like instant messaging, you are communication with not a long time span between replies.
  • What is needed in hardware and software for each?
hardware-phones, computers, calculators...
software-websites-flickr, bebo, facebook, blogger...
1. Communication is very important during an emergency.
In natural disasters or other situations, you need to be able
to reach stronger people in order to call for help. You can
explain the situation and have someone come to rescue or
help out. This can save many lives.

2. During natural disasters such as Katrina and the
tsunami, people use many forms of communication. The
radio is a good form of communication. One of the most
common forms of communication is a cellular phone. People
use it all the time, and they need it most during natural
disasters. Computers and the internet are very important as
well. you can use sites such as facebook, bebo, and flickr to
inform people about situations. Yu can also just e-mail. These
Are a few examples.

3. I think that when it comes to a natural disaster you must
include the location of the disaster, what the disaster is ( if it is
a hurricane, flood, fire...etc.), how serious the situation is, and
how has it affected the location so far. This information would
be needed in order to tend to the situation.

  1. Why is communication so important during an emergency?
  2. What forms of communication have been used during recent disasters e.g Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami?
  3. What essential information needs to be communicated during a disaster or emergency?
  4. What information can be created before the emergency?
  5. What hardware and software is required to be able to communicate online? Please list
